Attorney General and Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga has requested the Acting Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service, Salote Panapasa, to remove the policy where female officers' employment is terminated when they are pregnant.

While speaking to FCS officers before his tour around the FCS facilities, Turaga says he has been told about the policy the institution has for female workers as it is discriminatory.

He also questioned why this policy was implemented and where it came from.

The AG says it is wrong in the eyes of the Government that when a woman officer gets pregnant, and her employment is terminated.

He adds that when this happens, these female officers lose out on their main source of living.

Turaga has requested the Acting FCS Commissioner to reinstate those females that were removed because of this draconian policy.
