The first Navy vessel carrying relief supplies for the affected villagers in Cikobia will arrive there this morning.
Commissioner Northern, Colonel Inia Seruiratu confirmed that the first batch of supplies bound for the island should last the villagers in a month.
Seruiratu added they are also sending some key Government officials on this trip to assess the damages and improvements to be done in the island of Cikobia.
Seruiratu added that after Cikobia, they will also send supplies to the other affected areas in the North including Dogotuki, Udu Point, Taveuni, Kioa, Rabi and other neighbouring islands.
Meanwhile, only those homes built to withstand cyclones through government assistance are left standing on the island of Cikobia, which was battered by hurricane force winds for up to 12 hours during Cyclone Tomas.
Acting Director DISMAC Pajiliai Dobui said due to past cyclones many homes on the island were rebuilt and cyclone certified and only some homes which were not, have been destroyed by Tomas.
Dobui said arrangements are also being made now to set up temporary tents to carter for evacuees who are occupying schools in the Eastern division, to allow schools to hold classes during the day.
He said those in need of shelter can occupy the schools during the night and move to the tents in the day.
