The reporting and releasing of details of a patient’s condition borders on unethical behavior.
This is the observation of Fiji College of General Practitioners President Dr Ram Raju after reports were made public in some media outlets about the medical condition of the class 3 student who was allegedly raped in a toilet at school last week.
Raju said care must be taken when disclosing such information as there are a lot of stakeholders to consider, mainly the victim and her parents.
On health officials giving out details of the child’s condition, Doctor Raju said sensitivity should have been considered.
Fijivillage calls on people to have respect for the 8 year old and her family and to also understand that her detailed medical condition and injuries are confidential matters.
The matter is now before the courts, with 21 year old Petero Bai charged with the alleged rape.
The case has been adjourned to 12th April for mention.
