Rejuvenated Aussie Super Rugby ready for NZ test

The success of the inaugural Super Rugby Trans-Tasman competition is likely to depend heavily on how competitive the Australian sides are.

After the success of Super Rugby AU, the game's on a high across the Tasman and the New Zealand sides are treading with caution heading into the competition, which kicks off this Friday.

Former Wallaby Peter FitzSimons told Newshub, they have had a very dull, very dreary, very depressing time in Australian Rugby for about twenty years and it has been grim.

He says the test for the Australian teams will be facing those clubs from New Zealand.

The trans-Tasman competition will also be another test for the All Blacks and Wallabies players and, with the international season looming, Dave Rennie likes what he has been seeing.

The competition will kick off with the Highlanders hosting the Super Rugby AU champions, the Reds at 7.05pm Friday while the Waratahs will face the Hurricanes at 9.45pm Friday.

The Super Rugby Aotearoa champions, the Crusaders will host the Brumbies at 7.05pm Saturday, the Rebels will play the Blues at 9.45pm Saturday and the Chiefs will travel to Perth to meet Western Force at 11.55pm Saturday.
