The registration of five trade unions has been suspended by the Registrar of Trade Unions and the Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Osea Cawaru.
The trade unions include Itaukei Land Trust Board Workers Union, Hot Bread Kitchen Employees Trade Union, Fiji Maritime Workers Association, Viti National Union of Itaukei Workers and BPSS Co Ltd Workers and Carpenters Group Salaries Association.
Cawaru says the accounts of these trade unions have not been kept in accordance with the Employment Relations Act and failure to submit Annual Returns and Audited Financial Reports.
Cawaru says before the end of the four months after the date of the suspension, he will either restore or cancel the registration of the trade unions unless cause is shown in writing to his satisfaction within two months as to why registration should not be cancelled or suspended.
We have sent questions to Cawaru regarding the suspension and whether cause has been shown by these unions as to why their resignations should not be cancelled or suspended.
