The newly refurbished Sigatoka Hospital laboratory will be officially opened today by the Republic of Korea’s Speaker of National Assembly, Syekyun Chung and the Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Alex O’Connor.
The Ministry of Health confirms the cost of the refurbishment is $60,000.
It says the lab is designed in line with the standards of the Fiji Laboratory Quality Management Systems.
They say that the refurbishment of the entire laboratory and the establishment of a Tuberculosis microscopy space will foster the delivery of more efficient health services at the Sigatoka Hospital.
This project has been made possible through the support of the Korea International Cooperation Agency through the Capacity Strengthening of Tuberculosis Control Services in Fiji program.
The 4th Edition of National TB Manual will also be launched to complement the opening of refurbished Sigatoka Hospital.
The 4th Edition of the National TB Manual will be useful for doctors and nurses in hospitals and health centres, allied health staff, Civil Society Organisations as well as medical and nursing students.
