Identifying the relevant and emerging issues such as social media, abuse and bullying and also to embrace constructive traditional practices to address these issues is part of the objective of the Contextualized Child Protection Manual.
This was highlighted in a presentation by Deputy Secretary iTaukei Affairs Saimoni Waibuta at the Child Protection Programme on Review of Contextualized Package for the Itaukei Communities.
While officially opening the 3-day workshop, Permanent Secretary for Itaukei Affairs Naipote Katonitabua has stressed that reaffirming our values and morals especially in the family unit is more important than ever as Fiji continues to develop as a nation.
Katonitabua also reiterated that the vanua and its significance to our people as an identity, a social network and the essence of who we are must be acknowledged as discussions are initiated on the Contextualized programme.
He also highlighted to the participants that the manual is strategically developed to rebuild social structures that once defined Fiji as “the way the world should be”.
Katonitabua hopes that the discussions on Child Rights will pave the way reaffirming responsibilities and creating an environment which will be beneficial for each Fijian and more importantly a safe environment for our children.
In May this year, the Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs signed the Child Protection Multi-Work plan with UNICEF that is being piloted in 23 villages in Rewa, Nadroga and Cakaudrove.
