Ratu Wiliame sworn in as Fiji's new President
Turaga Na Tui Macuata, Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere.

The Turaga Na Tui Macuata, Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere has been sworn in as the new President of Fiji.

Ratu Wiliame was born on 20th April 1964 and is married to First Lady, Filomena Katonivere and they have 2 children.

He was appointed as the President of Fiji by Parliament on the 22nd of last month.

Ratu Wiliame was installed as the Tui Macuata and Taukei Bolatagane in 2013.

He has served on the Board of Fiji Pine Group of Companies, Tropik Wood Industries Limited, Copra Millers of Fiji, Fiji Sugar Corporation and Rewa Rice Limited.

Ratu Wiliame is also the former President of FijiFirst.

The new President has served two tours to the Middle East under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.

Ratu Wiliame is regarded as one of Fiji’s fiercest defenders of the ocean and is at the forefront of the effort to combat and adapt to climate change and the protection of our oceans and environment.

Ratu Wiliame’s Warrant of Appointment was read out by Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

Ratu Wiliame was also accorded a 100 men Guard of Honour.
