Former politician Ratu George Cokanauto Tu’uakitau has passed away after a short illness at the age of 78 years.

In a statement, former President and Speaker of Parliament and brother, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau says Ratu Tu’uakitau passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning at the Oceania Private Hospital in Suva.

Ratu Epeli says funeral arrangements have yet to be finalised, with further notifications to be announced in due course.

Ratu Tu’uakitau is the son of the late Ratu Sir Edward Tuivanuavou Tungi Cakobau and Adi Lady Vasemaca Tuiburelevu.

He is survived by his wife, Taraivosa Lagilagi, and his children, Ratu Penaia Kadavulevu, Ratu Jone Savou, Ratu Edward Tavanavanua and Adi Litia Tuiburelevu.
