Tui Namosi Ratu Suliano Matanitobua and Turaga na Tui Nayau Na Sau ni Vanua o Lau, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara are the new Deputy Chairs of the Great Council of Chiefs.
The names of the two chiefs were recommended by the Burebasaga and Tovata Confederacies and supported by the Kubuna Confederacy.
A tabua or a whale's tooth was presented to the President and Turaga Bale na Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, to open the meeting this morning.
In his opening address, Ratu Naiqama reminded the GCC members of the important role they play in serving their people.
Part of the discussion today was the proposed review of the iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission.
The members also took some time to remember the lives of members who have passed away, including the former Deputy Chair, na Turaga Taukei Navo, Ratu Meli Saukuru and Naitasiri High Chief, na Qaranivalu Ratu Inoke Takiveikata.
