Rapist stepfather gets 12 years imprisonment sentence

A man who raped his stepdaughter in February last year has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by High Court Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar.

It was heard in court that the man committed the offence when he took the girl and her two siblings to a river in Labasa for a swim.

Justice Goundar says the man expressed little remorse for his action.

The Judge says the child’s trust was breached when the offender sexually violated her as he was her stepfather.

He adds it is the courts duty to denounce and deter any form of sexual abuse of children.

He has imposed a non-parole period of 8 years.
