Shailendra Raju, who was a campaigner for the People’s Alliance in the 2022 general elections and also a former executive of the Fiji Labour Party and former Private Secretary of the late former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase, has filed a complaint with the Registrar of Political Parties.

Raju had said in a facebook post that one fella while discussing political funding is caught telling the potential donor who is foreigner that no receipts will be issued to her.

Yesterday Raju said that he retains the audio recording to be submitted to the Registrar of Political Parties first thing this morning.

When asked by fijivillage News, Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa said Raju had lodged a complaint with her this morning.

She says this has been registered and is currently assessed.

Mataiciwa says they should be able to inform the public of their next course of action after concluding the assessment of the complaint.

Raju has said that the man in the audio who was soliciting funds should have known that section 22 (3) of the Political Parties Act does not allow foreigners to donate money to political parties in Fiji.

He says the man was asking the foreigner for donations and assured no receipts will be issued.

Raju further said that the man in the audio recording told the foreigner that the Prime Minister is getting old and might retire.
