The raids begin.
Police are currently conducting the first raid at a shop in Nadi which is allegedly selling pirated DVD movies.
The raids have begun following the Amendment to the Copyright Act which came into effect on Tuesday.
Lal's DVD Plus is located in the Main Street of Nadi and its owner Sumeet Kumar is concerned.
Kumar said a number of items are allegedly being removed as we speak.
Fijivillage News also questioned Kumar on whether he was selling pirated DVD movies, knowing that the amendment to the Copyright Act came into effect on Tuesday.
Kumar claims that he was in the process of removing the pirated DVD's and was not selling them.
Police Deputy Director Operations, Erami Raibe said a number of items have been confiscated after a complaint was filed by a major recording outlet.
Raibe said the DVD outlet should know that police had the search warrant before the raid and they will also investigate the claims of the shop owner.
Police are still questioning the DVD outlet owner.
It understood that a number of raids will be conducted in the coming days and weeks.
