Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said radical intervention was needed in December 2006 to get Fiji back on track.
While speaking in parliament today, Bainimarama also said that he had no intention to become a politician but he had to make the decision to go into elections to continue with the reform process.
Bainimarama thanked the members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces for their support in the radical intervention.
Bainimarama also thanked his wife, Mary, their six children and 14 grandchildren for their support.
He also said the time for racism and politics of racial divide is over.
The Prime Minister also paid special tribute to Fijians who remained loyal to the country.
He thanked Chief Justice Anthony Gates and the judges who came forward to ensure that the judicial process kept running.
He also thanked friends in the international community who took the trouble to understand what was happening in Fiji.
Bainimarama said those who tried to bring Fiji down and impose their will on the country failed.
The Prime Minister said instead of being resentful of these nations, he would like to thank them for making Fiji stronger and standing taller in the international community.
Bainimarama has also told all the ministers and government MPs that it is not a time to relax and to take it easy as they have to deliver the services that the people of the country expect from a responsible government.
He said more details will be released in the 2015 National Budget.
However, one of the main priorities of the government is to improve the lives of ordinary Fijians.
Bainimarama said by all means, the Opposition can and should critique government policies but not just oppose for the sake of it.
Bainimarama said everyone in parliament should support all policies that will benefit the people of the country.
