Radical changes were needed - AG
Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said changes were needed for cases like the hotel development in Natadola and the proper market rent to be paid by the duty free shops based at Nadi International Airport.

He said something radical had to be done in some situations a few years ago when the government had to put in clauses in some decrees that there should be no legal challenges against government decisions in any court or tribunal.

Sayed-Khaiyum also revealed the significant amount of rent now being paid by the two duty free outlets at Nadi airport compared to the previous practice.

He said this could not have been possible without the decree stopping people from legally challenging the decision

While speaking at the closing of the 15th Attorney General's Conference at the Intercontinental Hotel in Natadola, Sayed-Khaiyum said decisive action had to be taken relating to developments in Natadola.

The Attorney General stressed that if the next elected government wants to change these things, they can remove these decrees or certain sections of these decrees by taking them through parliament.
