RKS players given green light to play at Youth Olympics

The Ministry of Education has given its approval for the 5 students from Ratu Kadavulevu School to be part of the Fiji under 18 7s team to the Youth Olympics in China.

Acting Permanent Secretary for Education, Basundra Kumar said the Youth Olympic Games contributes to the physical development of these students, provides exposure as well as opportunities for overseas contracts.

Kumar said this is a lifetime opportunity for the 5 students to showcase their talents as scouts from overseas rugby clubs will be watching to recruit and contract rugby players.

According to Kumar they have received a request from the Fiji Rugby Union for the release of these players as this is a national duty.

She said as of yesterday all the 5 RKS students have been released to join the national team.

The Fiji Under 18 Rugby 7s squad comprises of students from Sigatoka Methodist High School, Rampur College, Saint Johns College and Ratu Kadavulevu School.

The team is expected to fly out of the country tomorrow.

The Youth Olympic Games will be held in China from the 17th to the 20th of this month.
