The $18 million Navy vessel, RFNS Puamau which was was donated by Australia, and is damaged beyond repair after running aground in Lau just a month after being commissioned, will be replaced.

Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua says it will be known in due time.

Tikoduadua had earlier said that the vessel will be decommissioned and will not be brought back online.

He says the Fiji Navy and other experts are exploring the best ways to safely remove the ship which is still in Ogea.

Australia gifted the Guardian-class patrol boat to Fiji in May this year.
