RFMF clarifies its budget increase
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has clarified the increase in the RFMF’s budget for 2011, saying it is mainly due to the additional responsibility taken over by the RFMF.

Military spokesperson, Lt Colonel Neumi Leweni said they would like to clear the air on the unprecedented claims.

Lt Colonel Leweni said the increase is to cater for the three existing government departments that have been transferred under the operational supervision and command of the Republic of Fiji Naval Squadron.

He said the rationale behind this additional $7.477 million is that $6.740 million will be the direct budget of the Government Shipping services, $450,700 will go to government’s Hydrographic Unit and $286,000 to 3DP which deals with all the radio telephone services.
