An inexperienced Queensland Maroons team edged New South Wales Blues 18-14 in Game 1 of the State of Origin Series last night.

Debutants Xavier Coates and Aj Brimson and Cameron Munster scored for Queensland as they fought back from a 10 point deficit to get the win.

The Maroons scored 18 unanswered points to dominate a second half in which NSW rarely played the ball inside Queensland's 20-metre zone.

Queensland had 8 debutants in the match.

Former Fiji Bati rep, Daniel Saifiti played for NSW.

Game 2 of the 3 game series will be played next Wednesday at 9.10pm.
