National Federation Party Vice President, Lenora Qereqeretabua is the new Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.

She received 28 votes in a secret ballot.

Qereqeretabua was nominated by the People’s Alliance/NFP/SODELPA coalition to take up the position of Deputy Speaker.

The FijiFirst Party nominated former Army and Navy Commander, Viliame Naupoto.

He received 27 votes.

The People’s Alliance/NFP/SODELPA coalition has 29 seats in total in parliament while the FijiFirst Party has 26 seats.

This means one coalition member voted for the FijiFirst Party nominee again after voting along the same lines for the Speaker’s position.
