Public urged to prepare for unplanned water cuts as heavy rain continues

People are being urged to prepare for the possibility of unplanned water cuts as adverse weather conditions continue across parts of the country.

The Water Authority of Fiji is urging households to store sufficient water for immediate needs and to use water wisely during this period.

Meanwhile, a heavy rain alert remains in force for the Eastern half of Viti Levu including, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Serua-Namosi, the Northern Division, the Yasawa group, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

The Nadi Weather Office says a trough of low pressure lies over the group and associated cloud and rain are expected to affect parts of the group until later tomorrow.

Potential impacts include flash flooding in flood-prone and low-lying informal settlements and communities, as well as businesses and Irish Crossings, which may lead to traffic disruptions.

They further warn of surface flooding on streets in urban areas with poor drainage, wet roads and reduced visibility, particularly during heavy rain, which may also increase the risk of road accidents.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution.
