It will be a proud and unforgettable moment for Team Fiji Paralympic athlete Iosefo Rakesa as he will be Fiji’s flag bearer in the Tokyo Paralympics opening ceremony.

Rakesa and Inosi Bulimairewa are Fiji’s two athletes to the Paralympics and it is their first time participating in the Paralympic Games.

Rakesa’s preparation for the Games was impacted due to the Suva movement restrictions in the last three and a half months, however, he is grateful that he had access to Head Coach Fred Fatiaki during this time.

He says the lockdown was rough, with so much time spent at home but he still did a few training sessions with the resistance band.

Rakesa will compete in the F41 category in the shot put and javelin at 12.30pm on 30th August while Bulimairewa will compete at 10pm on September 4th in the javelin F63 division.

The opening ceremony will be held at 11 tonight.
