Prostate cancer and colorectal cancer is on the rise for men in Fiji.

Fiji Cancer Society representative Kaliova Turagaiviu highlighted the increase in the number of cases during the opening of the Movember Campaign at the Ministry of Lands and Minerals Resources Office.

He says that cancer is responsible for 10% of the total deaths in Fiji.

The common symptoms of prostate cancer are when it is very painful for a man to pass urine, when there is blood in their urine and when a man feels excruciating pain in their lower back.

Turagaiviu says that cancer cells are present in all human beings and a person’s lifestyle has a lot to do when people have cancer.

He adds that free tests are available at smart labs and all the men have to do is to contact the Fiji Cancer Society.

Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Koya says there are more than 20 prostate cancer cases recorded each year in Fiji.
