Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says Prophet Muhammad’s birthday is a time for people to reflect on the life of the Prophet, who was one of history’s greatest thinkers, and on the virtues that he extolled: Respect, Peace, Unity, Justice, Charity, and Compassion.
In his Prophet Muhammad’s birthday message, Bainimarama says these values encompass a moral code that resonates within the Islamic faith and far beyond; guiding people of all cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds who have sought peace and progress over thousands of years, just as they guide Fijians today.
He says Fiji live by these values secured in the knowledge that the Fijian identity is not the realm of a single religion, province, background, or ethnicity.
The Prime Minister adds that Fiji’s national character transcends these boundaries, and this was never more clearly on display than during the dark days of the COVID pandemic.
Bainimarama says we have proved that Fiji’s strength as a nation can be measured by the care and compassion Fijians showed to their fellow countrymen.
He says if we keep sight of those commonalities, if we seek to deepen the bonds that exist between us, we will continue to advance the nation and the people towards a brighter future.
