The race for the quarterfinal spot in the pool of death in the Rugby World Cup is still wide open with South Africa, Fiji, Wales and Samoa still in the running from their group.
Mathematically, the World Champion - South Africa following their 49-3 demolition of the Flying Fijians, have one leg in the quarter final with a game against Namibia on Thursday and the last against Samoa on the 30th of September.
After Wales 17-10 win over Samoa yesterday, it has left Pool D with South Africa on 9 points, Samoa at second place with 6 points, Wales on 3rd spot with 5 points while Fiji is on 4th position also with 5 points but with a disadvantage on their point’s difference.
For Wales, Fiji and Samoa: they still have two games at hand but they face a must-win situation to stay in the hunt for a quarter final spot.
Flying Fijians Assistant coach, Shannon Fraser believes the team is still in control of their own destiny knowing what they need to do against Samoa and Wales.
Samoan coach, Dick Tafua has set his focus on Fiji this Sunday, confident they will come away with a win.
For the 2007 RWC Fiji coach, Ilivasi Tabua, he says there is a need to change the way the team approach the game if they want to beat Samoa.
Meanwhile, flanker, Dominiko Waqaniburotu has been cited for an alleged breach of law with a dangerous tip tackle on South African fullback Pat Lambie.
The team has been informed and hearing will take place in Auckland with the time and date to be confirmed.
The Flying Fijians will take on Samoa on Saturday at 2.30pm at Eden Park.
Meanwhile, in last night’s results, France beat Canada 46-19 while England recorded a 41-10 win against Georgia.
