With all the celebrations planned throughout the four divisions, Police are urging members of the public to take all necessary safety precautionary measures.
Chief of Operations, Rusiate Tudravu says that a drone and the deployment of the new Command vehicle will further boost police operations in the capital city tonight.
He adds that the new Command vehicle equipped with cameras and all necessary surveillance capabilities will be deployed tonight as well as aerial coverage with a drone keeping an eye on celebrations and the two main street parties.
Tudravu says that with the manpower on the ground the Fiji Police Force will be utilising technology to keep the celebrations safe and incident free.
Members of the public are urged to abide by the street party rules which are all alcohol free events and Police will remove those who disregard the law.
Tudravu says that the usual New Years traditions should be practiced with caution such as the use of fire crackers, bamboo guns and the throwing of water.
He adds that Police officers are right now going around creating awareness and warning communities about the dangers of throwing water on moving vehicles as it is a serious safety concern.
Tudravu says that despite advisories and warnings Police continue to receive reports about this practice every year and are urging parents and guardians to closely monitor their children's activities as it is often young children and youths who are involved.
He has also urged people to ensure all fire hazards are thoroughly checked and that all unused electrical appliances switched off.
Tudravu says that in everything people do to herald in the New Year they must ensure it is done in a responsible and safe manner and are mindful of others rights to enjoy theirs too.
