The two police officers who are alleged to have been involved in the attempted rape of a female officer, have been remanded in custody.

Kaushik Rattan and Shivnesh Kumar appeared before Magistrate Bimsara Jagodage in the Labasa Magistrates Court, and are charged with one count each of attempted rape.

The prosecution had objected to bail, saying that both men have breached their trust to the public as police officers and the accused are a threat to the community.

The prosecution had also asked for the matter to be transferred to the High Court.

Defence lawyer, Amrit Sen says there is no reason for the accused to be remanded because both men understand the consequences if they do not follow the bail conditions as they are police officers.

Magistrate Jagodage denied the defence lawyer’s request and ordered for both men to be remanded at the Labasa Corrections Centre.

The case will be called again this Friday.
