A police officer who allegedly drove a police vehicle under the influence of alcohol and caused an accident in Lautoka will appear in the Lautoka Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has directed the officer be interdicted (suspended) with half pay and await the outcome of his court proceeding.

Police say the officer is alleged to have driven a police vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and lost control, causing it to veer into the opposite lane, where it collided with an oncoming vehicle yesterday morning.

The officer has been charged with one count of dangerous driving and one count of driving a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit.
