Police need to be more involved in traffic management.

Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum said this at the Fiji Institute of Accountants Symposium which was held in Suva.

Sayed‑Khaiyum says only traffic lights cannot be relied on for traffic management during peak traffic periods.

The Attorney General says the traffic management system in Fiji needs improvement and simple lanes should have more left and right turns.

He says in some stretch of roads there is traffic congestion and drivers try to switch lanes, so there is a need to make intersections which are a lot more conducive to heavy traffic.

Meanwhile, Sayed‑Khaiyum says the Police Force will get 100 motorcycles as announced in the 2017/2018 National Budget.
