Police investigate alleged assassination plot and brutality case
Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho

Police are continuing investigations into the plot to destablise the government and the alleged police brutality case in Lautoka.

Acting Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says he can only say that they know some of the people who were plotting to attack government ministers and officials.

He says people should not be worried as they are in control of the situation.

Qiliho is certain that everyone involved in the plot and the brutality case will be caught.

A Lautoka internet café owner, Rajneel Singh had seen emails on a computer that was not logged off by a previous user detailing plans to assassinate government ministers in parliament.

It had plans to shoot government members and an opposition member in parliament.

Singh got all the details and contacted Qiliho. He then handed over all the information to the Acting Police Commissioner.

Singh alleges that he was later picked up by some police officers who beat him up in the bushes. He was left there and later stopped a carrier before he contacted the Acting Police Commissioner.

There are allegations that the police officers who beat Singh up using a hot iron rod were angry that the information was leaked.

Acting Commissioner Qiliho put Singh under military guard at the hospital and ordered that the claims of brutality and the plot to destablise the government be investigated by a team from Suva.

No officers from the west including the Divisional Police Commander West are involved in the investigation process.

It is also alleged that Singh was contacted by some police officers on the morning after his assault to change his statement to say that he had injured himself.

Singh has severe injuries on his back and other parts of his body.

He has been released from hospital and gave a statement today.

Qiliho says people should not jump to conclusions as investigations continue.
