The Suva City Council together with Police have taken a different approach in trying to put a stop to illegal parking along Rodwell Road which is one of the main entry points into Capital City.

SCC now places cones outside Max Value Supermarket opposite the Suva Market from 8.30am-6pm daily to send a clear message to motorists that continue to disregard road rules parking in a no-parking zone.

Fijivillage has been raising the issue with the Suva City Council that illegal parking of vehicles outside Max Value Supermarket opposite the Suva Market on Rodwell Road makes it worse for motorists as some just park on the solid yellow line and take up a whole lane, causing more congestion.

This was occurring on a daily basis.

SCC has confirmed to Fijivillage that following a meeting with Police last week, cones will be placed along Rodwell Road and those parking or stopping illegally will be fined by Police and SCC Traffic Officers.

Drivers that are caught stopping or parking on a yellow line will be fined $20 and if they are repeat offenders they will be charged $75.

The Council adds that taxis operating illegally will be fined $200.
