More than 400 police officers deployed to ensure the safety and security of the visiting delegates for the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank in Nadi have been told to leave no room for blunders and mistakes.

The Fiji Police Force is part of the multi‑agency Co‑ordination Centre located at the Port Denarau Marina.

Police Chief Operations Officer ACP Maretino Qiolevu has told the officers that the operation should be conducted without any major incidents as the eyes of the world will be on Fiji.

Qiolevu said operations will cover both land and maritime surveillance with all the capabilities deployed for the entire duration of the meetings.

The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Civil Service Bernadette Welch says that as of last Friday, 2000 people from 80 different countries have registered to be part of the Asian Development Bank Annual meeting.

Welch says registrations were opened in December and she expects more registrations this week.

Most of the people that are expected to be part of the meeting will be Finance Ministers of countries or Central Bank Governors’.

Fiji is the first Pacific Island nation state to host such a conference.

The meetings will be held at Sofitel, Sheraton, Westin and Intercontinental.

The ADB meeting starts on Wednesday.
