Police Board of Inquiry set up to look at operational issues
A Police Board of Inquiry has been set up to look at all the operational issues after the prison breakout last month.

Assistant Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said this is not just looking at how the five prisoners were recaptured but how the force reacted to the situation.

Tudravu said they will not comment on the leg amputation of recaptured prisoner Epeli Qaraniqio until they see the medical report.

He said the investigating officer has gone to see the doctor.

DPP lawyer Lisiate Fotofili has confirmed in the Suva Magistrates Court that Qaraniqio cannot attend court as his right leg has been amputated from an open wound.

Meanwhile, Tudravu confirmed that investigations are also underway to determine how the prisoners managed to escape from the Naboro Medium Facility and who assisted them.
