Plan to have local govt elections by year end - Nalumisa

Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa says the plan is to have the local government elections by the end of this year.

He says the timeline will only be confirmed after a few regulations are gazetted.

While responding to questions by fijivillage News, Nalumisa says they are woking on it with the Solicitor General's Office and they hope it is done by the end of this month or by early next month.

The Parliament has yet to pass the Local Government Bill.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad had earlier said the elections were likely to be held in September or October this year.
