Pig waste assistance program provides relief to 69-year-old resident of Tagitagi, Tavua

It was an emotional day for Saroni Farm in Tagitagi, Tavua as they witnessed the production of cooking gas at home, the impact of turning waste into renewable energy.

Minister for Agriculture and Waterways Vatimi Rayalu says through the pig waste assistance program from the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways Fiji, due to renewable energy, the elderly couple as they do not have to buy kerosene, walk the distance and other associated factors.

Rayalu says Semisi Nadriubalavu and his wife have been into livestock farming for the past years of their life.

He says they shared the importance of toiling the land which has sweet returns and adds organic manure is produced at home as well.

Nadriubalu lives alone with her grandson and they survive through farming.

She sells her farm produce beside the road or at Tavua market.
