Lami Bridge

Police are requesting people not to swim or use the waters near Lami Bridge, close to R.B Patel Harbour Point.

This is after a container truck that was carrying harmful chemicals overturned in the area.

Police say the truck was loaded with battery acid and the harmful substance from the truck may have entered the water.

The truck which was driven by a 21-year-old man was heading towards Wailada in Lami when the driver heard a sound and he parked the truck but while doing this the container overturned.

According to police the contents of the container also spilled onto the road and culvert.

National Fire Authority officials were also at the scene.

People are asked to refrain from using nearby waters until it is cleared.

Police have also confirmed that this will not affect traffic.
