People of Sigatoka thank PM for Govt efforts

The Prime Minister has been thanked by the people of Sigatoka for government’s quick efforts in cleaning debris, distributing rations, cleaning villages and towns.

Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama thanked the civil servants for the hard work carried out in the Western Division in trying to rebuild the lives of those affected by the two floods this year.

He also revealed that dredging companies from China and Australia may be called in to dredge the Sigatoka River.

He said the government is looking at getting dredging companies from overseas to ease the problem.

He made the comments in Nahigatoka village.

Commodore Bainimarama is currently in Nayawa.

He said the main reason behind his trip is to see the homes of those that are living in evacuation centres and their movement from schools to other places.

Commodore Bainimarama said he wants to see if the homes or community halls are clean and have water and food.

The government has already stressed that no one will be forced out of the evacuation centres if their homes are not ready.

Alternatives venues are being sought for those who have to move out of the schools.
