The National Disaster Management Office is advising people living in low lying areas to take necessary precautions now as a heavy rain warning is in force for Viti Levu, the eastern and interior parts of Vanua Levu which include areas from Labasa, Savusavu, Seaqaqa and Taveuni, and Kadavu, Yasawa, Mamanuca and Lomaiviti.

All this rain is being brought by a trough of low pressure approaching Fiji from the West.

It is expected to affect the country through the weekend until Monday.

Rain is expected to become frequent and heavy in the Western parts of Fiji from tonight and gradually spread to the rest of the country.

The NDMO says due to continuous rain, there will be high soil saturation, surface runoff and the possibility of landslides.
