People getting married at a young age is a contributing factor to the increase in issues related to drugs and other social problems in our community.

This has been highlighted by Tuirara Levu of Nakorovou in the district of Rewa, Ivone Lemoya, who says that people are getting married at a younger age and are often unaware of their responsibilities.

Lemoya says in many villages, only the elderly people attend church, while many young couples are seen sleeping during the day and only participating in grog sessions at night.

He also questioned how social issues can be eliminated when individuals cannot control their desires.

Lemoya also highlighted that another controversial issue today is the existence of many different faiths in Fiji, which has led to confusion on where people should stand and what they should follow.

He further says that church leaders need to set an example for their church members.

The Methodist Church Annual Conference is underway at the Vodafone Arena.
