Passengers concerned about receiving faded receipts from e-ticketing machines

Passengers concerned about receiving faded receipts from e-ticketing machines

E-ticketing machine

Some passengers are concerned that they are receiving faded receipts from e-ticketing machines in some buses leaving them unaware of the balance on their e-ticketing card and the busfare they have paid.

A passenger told us that he received a receipt from a bus servicing the Narere area and it was faded so he could not see the balance on his e-ticketing card or the bus fare he paid.

The Consumer Council of Fiji says they have received two similar complaints where a person boarded a bus from Kalabu Housing to Nausori and the receipt received was blank.

Another person boarded a bus in Ba and the receipt given was in  a foreign language. This complaint was received last year.

CEO Premila Kumar says all these cases simply indicate that consumers right to information is not seriously taken by a few  bus companies.

She says bus companies have a responsibility to ensure their machines are maintained and the paper the receipts are printed on are suitable for printing clearly legible receipts.

She says the purpose of a receipt is defeated when details cannot be read.

Faded receipts from e-ticketing machines

Vodafone Fiji says the printers that are part of the e‑ticketing system use thermal paper for the printing of tickets and there is no use of liquid ink for the printing of these tickets.

Head of mCommerce and Corporate Affairs Shailendra Prasad says the poor quality of the receipt being highlighted in this case may be due to the quality of the paper used for the printing of tickets or the misalignment or wearing out of the printer heads which prints the tickets.

Prasad says the paper used for the printing of tickets is available through various stationary and paper suppliers in country and the bus companies procure the papers from the supplier of their choice.

We have sent questions to the Fiji Bus Operators Association.
