Parliamentary Secretariat awaits Hansard reports to view comments
Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama

The Parliamentary Secretariat is now waiting for the Hansard reports from today to see which opposition parliamentarian made the derogatory remarks to a government minister during the parliamentary debate earlier today.

Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama raised the issue earlier today.

Bainimarama said this is totally unacceptable behaviour and is not good for Fiji.

We are currently trying to get concrete evidence to establish who made the derogatory remarks through the Parliamentary Secretariat Hansard reports.

Secretary General, Viniana Namosimalua said this can only be revealed after the Hansard reports for today are seen.

When we approached the Leader of Opposition, Ro Teimumu Kepa on the derogatory comment made by an opposition MP, she said that she does not know why the government is raising this as a concern as some big words were also said by the government side this morning.

She said the term is heard by many people every day.

The Speaker of Parliament, Doctor Jiko Luveni has said to the opposition that she is disgusted that words which she did not hear and which are un‑parliamentary were being dished out in parliament.

She said words used in parliament should be respectable so that people who voted for the MP’s know that the MP’s do have respect for parliament.

Meanwhile Industry and Trade Minister, Faiyaz Koya has called for the opposition member to be taken to task.

Opposition MP and NFP President, Tupou Draunidalo then made claims that other things had happened in the past and the opposition let the matter go.
