While parents are shopping for stationary and other school items for their children, there are parents who are facing hardship in preparing to send their children to school.
Save the Children Fiji is looking into assisting poor students this year again with school books and stationary so that children are not deprived of education.
The Chief Executive Chandar Shekhar said that they are currently receiving application forms for assistance and are looking into it.
Shekhar said that parents can get the forms for assistance from the Save the Children Office.
Meanwhile, while the government is providing text books to all the primary schools in the country, many parents are still being requested to purchase text books for their children by some schools.
Some parents Fijivillage news spoke to say that the book list provided by the schools have the names of all the books including text books.
A mother of two, Dolly Prasad said that she was confused whether she should buy the books or not so she decided to go ahead and buy it to avoid any hassle later.
She said many parents she knows have already bought the text books.
Executive of a school management who wished to remain anonymous said that primary school students will not be allowed to take the books home and also the books provided by the Ministry are not enough to cater for all the students and that is why parents are being given a list of text books to purchase.
However, Education Minister Filipe Bole has reiterated that parents should not buy text books as all the primary schools in the country have been provided with text books.
School starts on the 24th of this month.
