Pakistan says it has shot down two Indian military jets and captured a pilot in a major escalation between the nuclear powers over Kashmir.

India says it had lost one Jet fighter and demanded the immediate and safe return of its pilot.

Pakistani PM Imran Khan says the two sides could not afford a miscalculation with the weapons they had.

Earlier India says it launched air strikes against militants in Pakistani territory with Pakistan media reporting 200‑300 terrorists killed.

Tensions between the nuclear‑armed neighbours have been high following an attack on Indian troops in Kashmir.

The previous attack against India which killed 40 soldiers was claimed by a group based in Pakistan and India had vowed to retaliate.

India accuses Pakistan of allowing militant groups to operate on its territory, something Pakistan denies.
