Korovuto College student Vishant Reddy came third in the Pacific Games 800 metres heats and is expected to be a medal contender in the final tonight.
Reddy clocked the third fastest time in the heats with 1 minute 53.77 seconds.
Australia's Jack Lunn clocked the fastest time with 1 minute 53.35 seconds while teammate Liam O'Donnell clocked the second fastest time with 1 minute 53.70 seconds.
The 800 metres final will be held at 7 tonight.
In the Women's 100 metres sprints, Kesaia Boletakanakadavu, Melania Ranadi and Braelynn Yee all finished in second place in the respective heats but were ranked 8th, 10th and 11th in the semi finals.
In the Men's 100 metres, Joshua Daudravuni and Ratu Penaia Ramasirai finished third in their heats while Waisake Tewa finished first in his heat.
Only Tewa is through to the 100 metres Men’s final.
In the semi finals, Tewa clocked the 6th fastest time with 10.81 seconds, Daudravuni had the 9th fastest time with 10.92 seconds while Ramasirai finished in thirteeth place with a time of 11.11 seconds.
The Fiji Netball side started their Pacific Games campaign with a dominant 90-25 win over the Solomon Islands.
They will meet Samoa at 5.30pm today in their second pool match and they will then play Norfolk Island at 1.30pm tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Team Fiji's Boxing captain Jone Davule had a convincing win over Nauru's Jesley Olsson.
He is participating in the 60kg Lightweight division.
Fiji is currently 5th in the Pacific Games medal tally with 12 gold, 16 silver and 17 bronze.
New Caledonia is leading with 62 gold, 39 silver and 36 bronze, while Australia is in second place with 28 gold, 19 silver and 11 bronze.
