PWD Staffs Asked To Improve Service

The staff of Public Works Department has been asked to improve their service delivery to the public when dealing with water shortage complaints.

PWD's Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said that the PWD knows that water is a necessity, and most of the staff at PWD need to ensure that they treat complaints seriously and take pride in their job.

She is calling on people to take advantage of other administrative centres if a certain place is not responding to their calls, as the Interim Minister for Public Utilities has already stressed that disciplinary action will be taken against staff not working up to the expected standards and has called on people to get the names of people they talk to at the Department while lodging their complaints.

Her call comes after the residents of Qeleloa in Nadi raised numerous complaints of water cuts at the Navakai Depot in Nadi. Waqainabete said a team is in Qeleloa looking into the problem.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Works has stated that they have received complaints that a few people are charging people for bottled water during water cuts in their areas. Ministry Spokeswoman, Sainiana Waqanibete said that selling water without a license is illegal and those caught will be taken to task.
