Permanent Secretary for Education Iowane Tiko says he will be having a meeting with the Principal of Lelean Memorial School and their Parents Teachers Association this Friday in relation to a letter which states that students have to pay $100 during enrollment.
The matter was brought up by a concerned parent who told Fijivillage that the letter from the school states that places for students will not be confirmed until the PTA fees is paid.
Tiko says he will address the matter in the meeting after Lelean’s Prize Giving Ceremony this Friday as the Ministry does not support the idea of levying students.
He says there can be other forms of fundraising.
The concerned parent told us that the letter which has been signed by the Principal of the school also states that the enrollment form has to be returned by 17th November and failure to do so will mean students places will be given to those on the waiting list.
The parent says his son is currently in Year 10.
