PM/Govt Officials to meet ILO delegates today

The Fiji government will be meeting with the International Labour Organization officials today.

In a press conference late yesterday afternoon, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum confirmed that the delegation will be meeting various Government officials starting from today, to clarify issues raised by the Trade Unions in the country.

Sayed-Khaiyum said the ILO officials will also be meeting the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama on Friday.

Director General, Juan Somavia said they are planning to have meetings to assess issues in relation to trade union rights.

ILO's number two, Guy Ryder arrives in the country today with two others from the international body which draws up and oversees international labour standards.

Fiji is party to all eight of the ILO's conventions upholding workers' basic rights.

Somavia said he's sending the team to advise him on how to help the parties involved - deal with the issues in a constructive way.
