PM traditionally welcomed in South Indian ceremony

The Prime Minister was traditionally welcomed in a South Indian ceremony by residents of Lovu, Lautoka yesterday during the opening of a water project where they washed his feet and performed other rituals.

A widow and resident Premila Henry who conducted these rituals also touched the Prime Minister's feet and got his blessings.

She then performed the ‘Aarti ceremony’ which is a Hindu religious ritual of worship.

Henry told Fijivillage that she considers Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama as her God who ensured they have piped water supply.

Henry said this was her late husband's dream as he wanted to welcome the Prime Minister in this manner.
