Basic and affordable housing creates stability, economic growth and is empowerment.
That was the sentiment of the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama as he officially launched the one billion dollar Waila City development last night.
Commodore Bainimarama said in the past, it was the inability pf housing stakeholders in the country that saw squalid housing and squatter settlements spring up.
He added that it is through the Waila City that there will be a change in the way housing in the country is approached.
The 1 billion dollar project will see a total of 5, 176 houses from 2 to 3 bedroom houses for the low to medium wage earners as well as for high income earners.
Last night the launching of Waila City was marked with the display of fireworks worth over 95 thousand dollars which lit up the Suva - Nausori skies for twenty minutes.
