PM launches National Framework of Digital Literacy for Fijian Schools program
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama

A new initiative has been launched by the government to increase the ability for students of Fiji to use computers, tablets and smart phones to access information and create content themselves.

While launching the National Framework of Digital Literacy for Fijian Schools Programme at the Holiday Inn this morning, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said this is an initiative that will give students greater access to the skills they must learn to realize the future that requires new disciplines and new ways of thinking.

Bainimarama said this will begin in six pilot schools over a six month period.

He added during the first trial period, they will develop a digital teaching and learning policy in model teacher readiness plan and a deployment policy.

According to Bainimarama, the success of this program depends on new teaching techniques in our traditional classrooms.

Through this trial period, the policy will be fine tuned to suit the Fijian curriculum and content needs.

He said this collaborative project will help every Fijian student take industry recognized skills and certification of the latest Microsoft software by the time they leave secondary school.

He said more schools will be included in the program after the success of the first phase.

The government has partnered with a non-profit group Reach for Your Future Foundation which is an organization dedicated to the delivery of digital literacy education to the children of Fiji.

They will work alongside the Ministry of Education and with government’s strategic partners.
